The discoloration, stains and darkening of your teeth is due to a variety of factors
like; drinking coffee, tea, cola, red wine, from smoking as well as from the aging
process.
There are a number of methods used to whitening teeth, from a variety of do-it-yourself
products, to professional dentist procedures.
At Cancundent, we offer the latest laser-bleaching tecnology, which consists of
applying a translucent chemical bleaching gel to the teeth, and exposing it to laser
light. This process activates the bleaching agent to absorb the energy from the
light and penetrate the teeth enamel to increase the lightening effect on the teeth.
Laser whitening will give you the best results, with no sensitivity and by far
the quickest way to whitening your teeth. Usually, one visit to our office it's
all it takes for a bright smile.
Other tooth whitening procedures
Whitening Toothpastes
Toothpaste will only help remove surface teeth stains, since they do not contain
any bleaching agents, they utilize mild abrasives and in some cases they contain
polishing chemicals. Toothpastes advertized as “whitening toothpastes” can only
help remove surface stains, and they may be able to lighten the color of your teeth
by about one shade, in contrast with Light-activated whitening procedures performed
in your dentist's office, that can make your teeth three to eight shades lighter.
Whitening Strips
Whitening strips are thin strips coated with a peroxide-based whitening gel in the
inside; this do-it-yourself treatment lasts about four months with initial results
seen in a few days.
Whitening Gels
Whitening gels are also peroxide-based gels, but they are directly applied to the
teeth surface, with results being similar as with whitening strips.
Whitening Rinses
These products also include ingredients, such as hydrogen peroxide, and also have
chemicals that help fight bad breath as well as reduce dental plaque and gum disease.
Experts say that rinses may not be as effective as other over-the-counter whitening
products, since the exposure of the teeth to the whitening chemicals last only a
minute or so, as opposed to the exposure needed in other products.
Whitening Mouthpieces
As with the other products, they also contain a peroxide-bleaching gel, usually
this tray is worn overnight for about four weeks to achieve the desired results.
